Tree Growing Kit at Canoe

We've been on a tree planting kick these last few weeks (10, 10-foot Sequoia Redwoods! yes, we're bragging...) and with Earth Day coming up next week, we're thinking about ways to share the forest love...

Though not quite as big a statement as our little reforestation project (back patting...), we like the idea of sharing the experience with friends. We could mail these babies around the world, or have our own fun starting the process from the very beginning.

I think I know what I'm buying my nephew for his Birthday...
...but not for myself: I think my building manager wouldn't like it if I had a Ponderosa Pine growing on my 15th Floor balcony.

those kits are bogus....you are much better off going to a local nursery and gettign a healthy tree suited for your climate and yard size. Ponderosa pines belong in the conifer forest, they are terrible urban/suburban landscape specimens.

hmmm...if you're really, truly on a tree planting kick, you should check out the Canadian treeplanting/reforestation industry. For about 3 months every summer, thousands of people work 5-6 days a week putting in about 3500 trees/per person/per day. It's a lot of trees :)

It's good to know that it's a "Genuine Tree Seed Germination Kit." I've been burned so many times by all of those fake tree seed germination kits.

If you're just curious about growing your own tree, or can't buy a larger tree from a nursery, I think this kit would work. Or, you could just go out in the woods and gather your own seeds for free (which is how I do it).

And I have several (albeit small) trees growing on my balcony. Once they start to get too big, it's time to transplant them into the ground/donate them to a friend with a yard. Since this kit is for a pine, you could always bonsai it.
