Urban Releaf is a non-profit forestry group devoted to revitalizing urban areas by planting trees. They have 150 varieties of trees to choose from. And -- get this -- they provide free planting and maintenance along with your tree.
In San Francisco, you can contact Friends of the Urban Forest for a free tree: they do neighborhood plantings if at least 30 homes want to plant a tree out front.
