Our fourth entry in the Greenest Thumb Contest is from Kristin and Dan. They write:
"We moved to San Francisco during this year's wet spring, and having previously been restricted to window boxes, our apartment search criteria included at least a few square feet of outside space and a bit of sun for plants. So far, we have spent more money on plants and pots for our Bernal Heights apartment than we have on furniture, hence a crowded patio and a pretty empty apartment!"

Kristin and Dan write, "We white-washed the peeling wall to reflect some light, strung up a wire trellis and added a range of shade-lovers including a vigorous passion-flower vine, an Australian tree fern, bleeding hearts and a lovely, glossy Fatsia."
"On the sunny side are various colorful Mediterranean-style perennials and annuals: a box of geraniums on the windowsill, white and yellow daisies, red yarrow, CA poppies, Armeria (the ones with the purple flower balls on the ends of long stems), and scented geraniums. On the staircase hang splendid orange Callibrachoa and pink jasmine, herbs and optimistic, fog-fearing tomatoes."
"Watering plants, messing about with soil and cuttings, and watching humming birds and fence lizards in the Bernal Heights sun whilst fog blows down over Twin Peaks, is one of the highlights of our San Francisco life so far."

Wow! What a fabulous, tiny garden! Spent more money on plants than furniture... AMAZING!! Love the vines! They are truly a couple with 4 green thumbs!
Fantastic....these two are obviously the coolest couple in the bay area...what eyes for greenery...I think they might be hiding horticulture degrees...please keep the pictures of these awesome peoples patios. coming..they gives me a reason to live. rock on kristin and dan....deserters.
