We laughed out loud. And then we realized we just may have to get rid of our "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster.
This past weekend Becky over at Hatch came up with the idea of a drinking game (it's been a while since we've actually heard those words) -- she suggests you take a swig of cab when you see the latest popular objects. And just what are these objects?
• Driftwood (which we're guilty of blogging here and here)
• Foo Dogs
• Antlers (here)
• Buffalo Horns
• Coral
• Moroccan Pouffe

You forgot to add birds and silhouettes.
HA! I want "in" on that drinking game. In my (recent) lifetime, I've had 7 of theobjects on your list. Most of them are in storage, but 2 are not.
But why stop there? How about adding: Nelson Bubble Lamp; Jonathan Adler (or Adler-esque) vase; Thomas Paul anything; Angela Adams textiles; Mid-C sidechair; Expedit bookcase; accent wall; woven throw; river rock; subway tile; vessel sink; Taschen coffee table book; etc.
Oh, and substitute a nice scotch or a top-shelf tequila... then I'm definitely in!
Two more: capiz-shell anything; subway/bus rollsigns.
BTW, I say hold onto an object regardless of whether it's trendy, in-fashion, or of-the-moment. You loved it when you bought it; Chances are you'll love it again. And if not... re-gift to your friends who have less stuff than you.
This is hilarious! Might have to do...
Gee with all my Buddhas, I would swallow my bellini in my gulp!
Oh, and what about cowhide rugs? Like a cliche all over the design map...
How about the raised bowl sinks? I love them, but they are certainly the bathroom decor du jour.
Flokati rug.
IKEA Poang chair.
Sheepskin pelt on chairs, bed, couch...
Botanical anything.
Ok, I totally admit I have three of those in my house, and they are totally staying where they are.
What is this "never trust a hippie" poster though? Have I somehow missed a super ubiquitous trend?
I can't believe I forgot Capiz-shells and birds!
IT's just funny when these same objects, that seem unique the first time you see them, turn up EVERYWHERE!
I also forgot "Woods" wallpaper by Cole & Sons.
Becky
My "Keep Calm..." poster is at the office, so it doesn't count.
Just to clarify, if you have one of these objects, you don't have to burn it. You just have to swig every time you see it in a glossy or in a blog post or out there in the world.
I really like the idea of the Keep Calm in the office - it sure beats "Hang in There" with a cat on it, or one of those cheesy posters about teamwork they sell in the back of airline magazines.
I was so proud of myself for avoiding all the cliches on your list. But once you add "birds" I'm doomed. We've definitely gone overboard on that one.
Ha, I totally grit my teeth every time I see someone else with "my" Keep Calm poster (that I TOTALLY got before it was cool, sure I did). I covet the Poang chair and Angela Adams rugs but have neither (nor do I have anything else on here although there are a few more I covet too) and I have to say, in my world (scientist, big botany nerd) ANYTHING botanical is on my Classic, Keep Forever list. Or at least it will be, when I find it...
I am getting fond of that Keep Calm poster. It seems very relevant to me for these times. It makes a helpful mantra in my head. I have a small antler collection, gifts from my last free roaming dog.
Anne, I think any object that has personal meaning should be on the forever list. The look of the times is defined by the fads. I think I might get that poster so I can have something modern and trendy in my house, which is what it lacks.
don't forget lucite!
Moravian star.
::ded from the color orange::
I don't have a single one.
I totally agree with adding the Expedit shelves, that orange Anthropologie "Astrid" chair, anything Adler-esque, the "Petrie" sofa, and Eames chairs (all things I wanted but did not/will not get)
But where's this "Never Trust a Hippie" poster? I might NEED it and I just don't know it yet. :)
I'm glad ebrown doesn't have anything on the list either, because I was beginning to think I was the only sober person here, like the designated driver at the toga party.
