Hot or Not? Vintage-Inspired Trunk Dresser

trunk071309.jpgAs we delve into the connections between travel and home decor this month, this piece stood out - it's a dresser based on trunks from the golden age of travel....

...from Graham & Green. Do you like the travel-inspired look or do you find it too "theme-y"? Hot or not?

Cute in a dressing room; not a theme I'd extend to a whole bedroom, though.

Not my style, but it's really pretty in that photo!

At $900 tax & shipping, it might be no more expensive to acquire a vintage Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk...

I use a vintage steamer trunk for my dresser. It cost only $20, looks beautiful and I've had it for years. The one in the picture looks really dreary, I think.

In a parallel universe LV steamer trunks are $900 and I'm Heidi Klum.

I like the idea but not particularly the one pictured.

Hmm, yeah i'd pay $900 for vintage LV maybe. Or better yet the custom ones from the set of safari themed one from The Darjeeling Limited.

Looking at this, I think you could ikeahack something pretty close with upholstery tacks and the right trunk straps.
While not cheap... would surely best $900.

I clicked hot before I realized this collection is made of faux leather and laminated mdf. Any DIY hack using similar materials would surely come in at less than $900, if all you want is the look. For not much more money, I'd very much prefer to have this one: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp;jsessionid=A2A0HGACDFAMBLAWCQKSBHVMCYKBMH20?productId=prod1593021&navAction=jump&navCount=0

Maybe you could get a vintage LV steamer trunk for close to a grand if you were very, very lucky. I think more than twice that amount would be more realistic.

I think this trunk dresser thing is not that good-looking, but perhaps it's just the staging and photography.

I like the concept, not the execution. Surely, like amed studio is saying, you can make it yourself for much cheaper.

Here's a Vuitton steamer trunk on Ebay http://tinyurl.com/l3r63l
Buy it now for $15,000.

Oh, and here's a similar one, http://tinyurl.com/nm6dtk
Buy it now for only $36,000.

Yeah, those LV trunks are a real bargain idea....

I don't know, it's weird to see something vintage-inspired looking so shiny new perfect. Needs to be more rough around the edges or something.

This is way cute! Not as a whole theme room, but as a piece in a regular room, this is really nice! Definitely hot.

I think it could be cute in a kid's room with a safari theme. Jungle animal wallpaper, faux zebra rug...I can totally see it.

I don't think this is gonna work.
I miss the vintage look of it! It's too clean.

Not hot.
And I'm obviously spending way too long on the Graham & Green site as I recognised it instantly.

This would be cute as a stand alone piece at a significantly lower price point.

I'm with kiljoywashere. And definitely IKEA hackable if you like the look.

I love it sooo much. I wish they'd sell it for a cheaper price point and then I'd totally buy it.
