House Tour: Julie and Andrew's Art-Filled San Francisco Abode

Name: Julie and Andrew
Location: San Francisco
Size: 850 sq. ft.
Years lived in: 1 year

It comes as no surprise that while Julie's an interior designer and Andrew's a creative director for an online advertising agency, they're both artists. They have a beautiful, fun, light, art-filled home, as well as a lovely kitty named Mona.

Our style: Mid-century meets flea market meets industrial salvage yard meets urban art.

The inspiration for our home: Art objects we like, both little and big.

Favorite element: The light. We live in a corner condo and sunlight moves to light different parts of our house all day.

Biggest challenge in designing our home: Our place was built in 1926 without modern drywall. Its almost impossible to hang anything directly on the walls.

What family say about our home: Its so grown up. But that was only because we had extra pillows when they stay over.

Biggest embarrassment in our home: The bathroom.

9-26-julieandrew3.jpg

Proudest DIY: Our idea to hang sheets of translucent polypropylene on the lower half of each window for privacy. The plastic diffuses the sunlight and allows us to keep the upper half open to see the trees outside.

Biggest indulgence with respect to our home: The dishwasher!

Best advice given or received: Dont think about it so much.

At first, I thought, "ew, antlers in the kitchen," until I saw them centered over the stove. Wonderful.

Wow - such great art and I am completely jealous of the vintage stove. And the antlers are genius!

Very pretty cowhide rug too - I've been thinking of getting one in dark brown white, but I polled my friends and some of them think they're "icky". Dead animal and all. I still love them, though. Hmm, maybe I should submit this as a Good Question...

i like the overall feel of the living room because of how u two blended several different elements of color, shape, construction, & scale but still managed to keep it cohesive.

Where did you get that calendar from? Looks fun and intriguing. Also, wanted to find out, how you like the Jasper sofa... how comfortable is it?

I own a jasper and do not find it to be comfortable. The seats tend to slide out from under you and even if you are medium height, your feet don't quite reach the ground when you sit all th e way back. Not the most comfortable couch, honestly.

I love your pad! I am a location scout in the Bay Area and am always looking for great stories to submit to various editors of shelter title magazines. I think your apartment would be great for Decorating Magazine, and possibly a couple others. If you have any interest, feel free to email me (Sarah) at albaworks@gmail.com, and I can tell you a little more about the scouting process.
