Look!: Alicia's Husband's Hangouts

Oh dear. Since readers have expressed concern about just where Alicia's husband hangs out in their Portland home, we decided to share the photos that weren't included in the House Tour. . .

Her house, his house.

A truism if I've ever seen one.

Now that's a place where I could be creative!

My project work space needs are: workbenches, shelves, good lighting, storage for reference material (files), and funky art to make the space visually interesting. I painted the space with strong colors I found in a global color combinations book.

The rest of our Tudor house was decorated with mostly Mission style furniture and mild to bold colors -- mostly earthtones. We sold that house last year, and a good workshop space is a requirement of mine when we buy our next home.

Hah, someone linked to a recipe on her blog so I made his eggrolls last night. And man were they yummy.

I actually divorced someone in part because of a situation like this. Everything was country-feminine, drove me nuts. She would flat out refuse to let me have a say in anything decor wise, I had half a home-office to call "my own", and even then I could hardly hang art without getting negative comments. It's been years and I still cringe at the thought of being with anyone now that I'm finally free to be me.

I'm really wondering what her husband thinks of this situation. That home they "share" doesn't seem to show any signs that he's had a say in the decor. Even as messy and cramped as his workspace is, he has some interesting pieces down there and that style isn't at all represented in their home. Does he feel comfortable in the house at all?

I posted this comment at the original house tour, but I think it bears repeating:

It's been my experience that most men will put up with any amount of charming feminine decor if they are kept well fed, well bedded, well entertained, and above all, well loved.

I suspect Alicia's man considers himself quite lucky on all counts.

I posted a comment too on the original house tour. As I said I understand men who read this blog woudln't get it, but there are lots of men who don't give a damn about decor. Others LOVE how their wives decorate, as long as they have the garage...or the basement. Oh...and I forgot to mentiont he beer in the fridge.

Hate to break some folks bubbles, but lots of men don't give a hoot about decor, and are happy they don't have to think about it.

So, if we do give a hoot there's something "wrong" with us.

Yeah right.

I'll stay single.
