Sarah & Jason Pop Into Mid-century
House Call

(Welcome to Molly from Portland. She is one of the bloggers trying out for a place on the Apartment Therapy editorial team, covering different cities in the NW. Comments welcome!)

Name: Sarah and Jason
Location: Portland

Molly sent us a House Call post featuring photos of a super creative and hardworking space - Jason and Sarah run The Wurst Gallery out of their home. Molly writes: Sarah and Jason have put a lot of love into restoring their tri-level mid-century home. They’ve pulled up the carpets, renovated the bathroom and opened up the kitchen by knocking...

...down a wall. The list of upgrades goes on and on. Though they are intense collectors of art and object, they were able to stay true to their open floor plan by having floor to ceiling display shelving built in their living room!

We've had amazing response to our Apartment Therapy House Tour Submission Form. While we will work with homeowners of our favorite homes to feature full tours, we will also share the best as House Calls — short, quick tours of readers' homes. Submit your home here.

Intrigued by a lot of the art. Where are those skateboards with the faces from? I like the shape, simplicity, and colors!

I like this house call, but I wish the text included some more details about their space and choices.

Love the coffee table, is that a vintage piece or a reproduction.

I know they are saying mid-century but I lived through it and this is way too cheery. Nice place.

Those colored panels at the bottom of the shelving are pure catnip! Love it.

Molly, don't leave us hanging! Give us more details about the home and its owners! You've found something lovely to showcase AND you can use an apostrophe! Give this girl a job.

Thanks! Jason made the painted skateboards that are hanging on the wall as part of a group art show. They acquired both the coffee table and brown leather couch from vintage shops in Portland. Much of their collection has come from various vintage shops, auctions, or is the art of their friends. The Saarinen table was a score from a hospital auction!

This is an amazing house, and unusually Jason and Sarah have managed to make it more amazing, not less. The only thing I see wrong is the front door. Looks a bit panely. Replacing a door is expensive and hard, though. When the house was new, I imagine it might have had a hilarious ornate Mediterranean-style door, though I would recommend something plain. The door surround windows are fantastic!

Thanks for all the comments on our house! We're really pleased with the photos Molly captured.

As for the front door, it is the original door and while it's pretty ho-hum on the inside, the outside is more ornate as fnarf guessed! We've actually considered painting the door a bright color, but that remains on our to-do list.

Alright, another Portlander! Beautiful home, fun and quirky. I love how much stuff you guys have and yet it doesn't look cluttered... that's exactly what my boyfriend and I are trying to go for because we also have a ton of stuff and I feel like there's not really a place for anything! Love the displays.

Great photos but the back story was weak and leaves you with no real information about this home, which is a shame.

nice and vibrant. What kind of lighting fixtures are those circle ones in the kitchen?

I'm not sure of the name of the lighting fixtures. They got them at Globe Lighting in Vancouver, WA. http://www.globelighting.com/

I have a tendency to be afraid of "too much" colour (whatever that means *grin*), but this shows me once again that it can work as long as there is a strong red thread through it all. Well done!

I'm in love with the dining set. What kind of finish would you say it is? Would anyone know if its from a specific designer? Thanks!!
