Some homes make you feel instantly at ease the moment you walk through the door. They're less about being on top of the latest design trends and more about spaces created over time that reflect the inhabitant, are thoughtfully designed so as to be easy to live in, and are effortlessly comfortable, all while looking great. Natalie's Oakland home is definitely one of these.

With the craftsman detailing of the house, the art by local artists, family photos tucked on shelves, furniture designed to sit and talk for hours in, and souvenirs collected on her extensive travels, the mix of furnishing manages to be eclectic and interesting but never overwhelming. The feeling you're left with is that this is not just a house, but truly a home, and a real reflection of the inhabitant, something that we don't seem to see enough of today.
AT Survey:
Inspiration: Japanese traditional architecture and gardens, Frank Lloyd Wright, travels in India, Mexico and Europe, and early memories of my parents’ remarkable ability to make a new house a home…
Favorite Element: Craftsman details, wonderful light in every room
Biggest Challenge: Double entry living and dining rooms
What Friends Say: It is very calm and soothing to be here
Biggest Embarrassment: The pink metal blinds in the bedroom that I promised myself to remove upon move-in and just got replaced last year.
Proudest DIY: A dining room table I built myself (now in the garage)
Biggest Indulgence: My bed
Best advice: 1) Surround yourself with things you love 2) Everything goes with everything 3) Edit frequently!
Dream source: Picking things up while traveling… and wherever they might sell original Noguchi lamps and the Rosewood Eames chair.
