2-23-housetourlogo.jpg We first got a peek at Vicki and Jon's home a few years back in our annual Fall Colors Contest - needless to say, our interest was piqued. The pair have been going through the sometimes agonizing process of remodeling their house, but judging from the pictures they've been getting along really well. They were kind enough to include a few "before" shots so we can see just how far they've come - amazing what some paint and hard work can do!

The use of color throughout the house adds a lot of fun and really warms up the rooms. The couple have done a great job combining calming shades with enough bright pops to keep the entire place engaging, and the reds in the office are a great way to keep energy levels up when working from home. But that could change - according to Vicki the office is slowly turning into a nursery.

4-8-08 vickihousetour.jpgAT Survey:

Our Style: We try to mix the old with the new. We tend to prefer clean-lined, simple furniture, but don't mind mixing it up with something more traditional.

Favorite element: Our bed. We bought a new platform bed and bedding. We used to have a mattress on the floor. We feel like grownups now.

Biggest challenge in designing our home: Choosing all the tiles for the kitchen and bathroom during our remodel. I had no idea how many different types of tiles are out there!

What friends say about our home: I've heard that the colors we painted the walls make the home feel comfortable and inviting. Anything seemed better than the hideous yellow and pink that was there previously!

Biggest embarrassment in our home: The stairway that leads to the backyard, and the backyard itself is scary.

Proudest DIY: We were left a dining room set and china cabinet by the previous tenant who was not able to take it with them. At first, we were thinking of getting a new dining set, but had no idea how to move the large set out of the house. We ended up reupholstering the chairs ourselves and painted the inside of the cabinet white. We love it now!

Best advice given or received: Wait till you've lived in the house for a while before buying all your furniture and art. Collecting our pieces slowly makes us love each element of our home.

Really gorgeous. Or maybe I think so b/c our tastes are almost perfectly synched up: I recognize at least 10 design elements that I've got working in my own place!

Where did you get the b&w pillow on the far right in this image?

I love it, and I'm looking for pillows in b&w patterns right now.

Okay, this is now my new inspiration. What a fabulous transformation! I LOVE the bathroom. The colors are great - accessories work, and overall, one of the best remodels I've seen. Love it!

Thanks for all the comments.

Lolax, the pillows are actually brown and white. They were designed by Jonathan Adler for Hold Everything. Jonathan Adler has other similar pillows on his site right now in b&w, but in a wool material:

Wow. You have a beautiful home. It looks like you put in plenty of hard work to end up with exactly what you wanted.

I am especially in love with the bathroom. Do you happen to remember the paint color?

Wow, nice work. It is SCARY how much the before pics remind me of the apartment I lived in in the Sunset around 1994/5 at Juday and 12th. I actually thought it was the same place for a minute. That would be a trip!

Vikki & Jon,
I love what you have done with your place!
I am a location scout in the Bay Area...I find homes for various national home magazines. I think your home may be a perfect fit for a magazine called Before & After...or Decorating Magazine....possibly even Home Magazine. Let me know if you are interested in possibly being published, and I can explain more about the process. Thanks! Sarah Alba albaworks@gmail.com
