apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

HousingMaps.com

Wow. And you thought ListPic was cool.

Paul Rademacher's HousingMaps.com is an addicting combination of Craigslist and Google Maps. After you choose from over 35 cities (including London and Toronto), you can sort first by whether you're looking for a rental or a sale, and then further by price, pet-friendliness, and keyword. Next you can quickly preview the ad, viewing any photos in a pop-up box.

We sure wish we'd known about this app a couple of months ago.

It's a profoundly useful site. I'm in the process of moving to San Francisco from Chicago and found my new apartment with HousingMaps.

As I'm not terribly familiar with San Francisco, I was manually entering addresses into Google Earth. The elegant mashup that is HousingMaps made for a far more efficient search. Great stuff!

I've been using housingmaps for years, but just found www.mapskrieg.com. This is soooo nice! It lets you view the description, too!

There's another site that does this type of thing:

http://www.jolocate.com/Listings.aspx

I like it better

If you're looking in one of the cities they cover, http://www.cribq.com is pretty sweet.

Has all the Craigslist listings like housingmaps (except it seems to be much more up to date), but also favorites, notes, and some pretty cool tools like a "birdseye" view.

So far I think it's just Seattle, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco.

I guess I am late for the party :(. I just finished working on my craigslist-on-maps site.
http://www.rentrent.org

Rentrent.org offers better search interface on top of craigslist listings. I got motivated to build this site because I saw some limitations in Craigslist interface. I just hope that the site helps people search for the apartment they are looking for.

Why is it better than others?
.Allows user to filter by numer of bathrooms.
.Allows user to search by exact number of bedrooms.
.Allows user to search by very granular amount she is willing to pay.
.Color coded properties.
.All the information you need about a property is on a balloon.
.The map interface gives user the visual idea about where exactly each rental property is.
