Always wanted a pipe bed but don't know how to weld? We came across this great how-to from Silicon Valley-based DenVogel, an Instructables contributor. It's a great mixture of D.I.Y. and K.W.T.C.A.E (Know When to Call an Expert).

The sturdy yet floaty canopied bed frame was made using aluminum pipe, an A.F. hex key, the cutting services of the pipe supplier and the welding services of a muffler shop, and cost $800.
Perfect if you live in a loft, or an interesting departure in a Victorian with high parlor ceilings.
great idea, but the plastic joints look terrible.
I have a bed like this, but used shiny aluminum speedrail joints instead. Mine didn't involve welding - I just had the 20 foot long pipe cut to pieces upon pick up and then hex keyed it together.
I wish there were a way to build a bed like this that looked a little nicer. Bare metal pipe with industrial fittings works in very few spaces.
If you don't like the bare metal look, you could have the parts powder coated in whatever color you like. Kee Klamp makes a better looking clamp system than the one in this pic.
