I have another suggestion to recycle magazines and still avoid the blue bin--our apartment building has a basket in the lobby area with a label on it that says "Recycled Reading". We all put our old magazines in there and take others we haven't seen. It's awesome.

You could also take them to a charity outlet. I've been buying magazines from my local one for years.
