How To: Reglaze a Window

We consider ourselves to be pretty handy, but replacing window panes is never something we thought we'd attempt on our own. After checking out this tutorial from Benita, however, we may attempt it the next time we find ourselves with broken glass on our hands.

We're not saying it looks easy, but her step by step break down makes it seem actually doable.

There was a crazy hail storm here in Austin about 6 months ago. Hail the size of baseballs broke about 9 panes of glass in my windows. Every place I called to fix them had a 2-3 week waiting list due to the widespread damage, so I decided to try an do it myself. It was amazingly simple and only cost me around $30 -- a fraction of what I was quoted by the professionals.

Window glazing is approximately the same level as playing with playdough. You just make ropes of the glazing putty and ram it down next to the glazing points. The trickiest bit is not cutting yourself when you remove the broken glass.
