How To: Screen Mementos

Last week's post on the Sunset Artists' show included an image of a large art piece called Art IS my Bag that we think is worth a closer look, this time from a How To perspective.

Artists Kate Dophiede, Leigh Radtke, and Charlotte Seekamp assembled individual collages in ziplock bags, one for every state (and protectorate) in the Union. Their several dozen collages were created to be seen both front and back since they would be visible from both sides of the wooden frame, built by Roger Tomas. The artists strung fishing line across Tomas's three hinged wooden frames and used garden variety document clips to suspend the ziplock collages.

Art IS my Bag is made of humble materials and its construction would be easy to copy (or modify) for displaying a changing roster of photos and mementos at home, at a small scale or as large as a sunlight-permitting room divider.
