We've blogged a lot about silhouette art in many manifestations here at Apartment Therapy (pet silhouettes made of wood, Etsy artists selling intricate silhouettes, photojojo's fabric silhouettes, paper pet silhouettes) but this issue of ReadyMade has a DIY silhouette project idea that was too quick and easy to pass up. I tried their idea, and came up with a few offshoots, and all in under an hour! Check out the results of this easy DIY here...

Select an image
Cut it out
We also traced the cut-out image onto colored paper for another option
Place it in a frame on colored (or patterned) paper

Nice!
Always love an easy DIY.

I got inspired after reading this and went and did it. I did two pictures, one of each of my kids (not the easiest subjects in the world) and it took only about a half and hour, including taking and printing the pictures, telling my kids a bazillion times not to touch the printer, etc. It was fun and came out really good! I just pasted my silhouettes onto bright yellow felt because that was what I had on hand, and put them into solid black frames.

Oh, and to make it simple I glued the pictures to black construction paper before I cut them out, then just put glue on the front side of the pictures and pressed them onto the felt.

I saw a house tour on here and have always loved these types of prints and thought about making some of my dog's profiles.

How else could you get a side silhouette without an original photo?
Tracae a projection shadow on the wall??
Hmmm...
I would love to do this project with my kindergarten kids!
