Well, thanks for this post. I'm not a fan of displaying CDs (to the point where I have banished all CDs to a box in storage, and opt instead to keep my music collection on my iPod), but I do have a pair of antique skiis. And I was struggling with a way to use/display them. For some reason, the only thing I could think of was ugly metal L shaped brackets. But this is a much nicer solution.

I still have no idea what I'll use the skiis for (whether they'll be hung somewhere as eclectic decor, or used more functionally as a shelf) but at least this gives me an idea of how to accomplish the shelf solution!

I like this! I'd probably put something other than CDs on it, but it's a great idea.

A local cafe uses old skis like this as benches.

CDs are not furniture.

I have an old snowboard mounted on a shelf bracket.

However, it's been put to utilitarian use in the garage.

In the house, the width would perhaps be more appropriate to holding books, and the shorter length may fit better in more spots. If you need to keep it from sliding around on the shelf, you could mount the brackets close together and use the binding mounting holes to secure it.
