072309 wood cabinets 2.jpgIdeas range from painting a faux-antique finish (shown at top) to replacing the center panel with a delicate radiator screen (above). Does anyone know where I can find an olive green colander like the one in the second image? I've been hunting for one for a year now, and I'm beginning to fear it's a color of the past.

Also, I love the look of a decorative perforated metal on cabinets. There's a lot you can do with a pretty wire mesh or grill:

No, shockthebourgeois, you should be able to find one at Ross or TJ Maxx. I bought a nice teapot in that same color from there by Tivoli and still always see colanders in that size and color. I've been talking myself out of buying one for a while. I made a point to stop going to those stores, because I find I come home with too much stuff and buyers remorse.

rebeldress: Thanks for the tip! Didn't even cross my mind to look there- I just kept searching online and coming up empty handed. I'm laughing at your comment about buyer's remorse. My trick for avoiding that is bringing cash. It's amazing how easy it is to spend "imaginary" money with a credit card!!

The olive green colander is indeed lovely. Actually I really love all the colors here -- the baby blue and red; the olive and blue. Thanks for posting this!

At any apartment I've ever rented they discourage painting, does anyone know of maybe a vinyl sticker that I could cut. It would be nice if it was the kind of adhesive that didn't take paint with it when removed, as some of those clay-like tape-alternatives offer.

Because I'm sick of white everywhere I live and students can't often purchase houses.
