apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inspiration: White Walls Done Right

White walls can look too stark and clean - normally, we like the idea of painting at least one room in an apartment or even a single wall a different color but when done right, pure white walls create a blank canvas and offer all the flexibility when decorating. Furnishings and accessories really pop against the white background. This beautiful white-wall Danish apartment is filled with color. More photos after the jump...

This home was first featured on The Deco Detective blog. All the beautiful rugs and textiles just add so much richness to the space. The vibrant hues of different objects seem perfectly balanced. The home feels so inviting and with uncovered windows it is filled with natural light.

I love the eclectic with the modern look of white-- it is both elegant and welcoming. I am inspired! Best, Nadine Bouler

I like it! Maybe I am just partial to those blue-green colors.

(What's the deal with those chairs on the end?)

clampers - the chairs on the end are stokke high chairs so I'd say the owner has small children.

(PS: Sorry if you already knew that and were just commenting on those chairs being in the photo)

One of the few situations where I love the white walls and think it works 100%. Absolutely lovely, even for my color addicted self. I do agree that the photos appear a bit staged as it would appear that even all the clothing in this house adheres to the color scheme. Nothing wrong with that when it makes for good house porn!

AT: Thanks for the link love =)
Clampers: Norwegian company Stokke's "Tripp Trapp" chairs for kids! They're excellent, since they are adjustable as the kids grow. You can also use the chair as a tiny staircase if you need something on the top shelf ("Trapp" means "staircase" in Norwegian)!
(Stokke's stroller was actually used in the Sex & the City movie)

We registered for that highchair and I love the color you chose, what is it? I think we chose the darker finish but I want to change it to whatever you have. Thanks!

I just looked, we chose walnut, but on the website it looks darker than regular walnut. I think you may have cherry or natural? Thanks:)

Tiffany: it's not my apartment - I just was the lucky person who blogged it first and got linked to by AT. Here's the link to the article in Boligmagasinet, where I found this beautiful Danish home:

http://boligmagasinet.dk/article/30672/gallery/117547

But the article doesn't say anything about the colour of the Tripp Trapp chairs, I'm afraid. Maybe you should consult the website where you've ordered the chairs. If you include the link to the photo, they might be able to tell you which colour it is?

WHERE can i get a mirror like that??? the orange one with the doors? does it have a name? I LOVE it.

That mirror is from India originally. It's likely raw rosewood under there, that's typically what they are carved from. They are rampant in India and very affordable, they have just painted it orange.
Do you have any East Indian furniture stores around you? I'd pop in with the pic and ask if they can get you one or direct you where to get one, ot try some stealthy online searches, it's definately East Indian.

I have the same mirror, and I have had it for about fifteen years. I bought it in the natural wood, but varnished. It does looks like rosewood to me. I loved it the minute I saw it. It took me about a month to put the money together for it, although it was not all that expensive. I bought it in a small, trendy gift shop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I saw a few similar around NYC for a few years after that. Some painted their versions a shabby chic white and used them in bathrooms. I haven't seen the mirror around in the U.S. since then, and I did just check out an extensive East Indian furniture shop here in Austin. I think your best bet is online. Good luck!

I just bought one last November in Berkley, CA. There is a store there that carries a lot of those with the mirror (exact type, mine is in a bluish color). The store is called Zentrum.

They ship everywhere and have amazing import items. Oddly, sometimes I've seen them at Pier One and World Market!

I love all the colors... the photos are so amazing! So inspirational... now I want to paint my mirror bright colors!

Nice little explosions of colors against clean pure white.

Pablo Picasso prints will gell beautifully with this refreshing departure from black and white.
