Mixing high and low is always in style in our book, and it seems fashion design and homeowner Lynn Mizono would agree. Her Seattle home features a healthy dose of Ikea mixed with custom pieces and mail-ordered furniture, for a finished look that is both minimal and chic.
Mizono and builder Carl Magnusson came up with lots of creative ideas for the space, including "faux concrete" floors made of particle board and using corrugated plastic for the loft railing to let in more light. For the entire gallery of images and article go to Metropolitan Home.

More info about the "faux concrete" floors made of particle board, please. I'm intrigued.

c.ashley, I found this on the Met Home article:
"The master bedroom features a bed Mizono got from Design Within Reach, dressed in a quilt with a Girl Boy cover by No One You Know, in Australia"
No mention of the curtain panels, however.

The floors are made of medex, which is an outdoor particle board(more durable and waterproof than the indoor version medite) The 4x8 panels were cut in half layed and spaces between sheets were caulked. I did a two color wash on it and if was finished with a waterbased verathane. The zinc looking appearance of the drawers are just from a metaliic paint. The curtains in the bedroom are also from IKEA.
