Before and After: Kitchen Remodel from Desire to Inspire

It seems that there's a kitchen renovation bug making its way across the blogosphere, and just in time for Kitchen & Bath month here at AT! First we saw AB Chao's all-white remodel, and now Kim from Desire to Inspire has posted her newly completed kitchen. Check out more photos after the jump...

The entire process of the renovation is chronicled on Desire to Inspire, from the Greentea cabinets down to the kilim rug.

Am I the only one that LOVED the pink cabinets before?

Personally, I think the "Before" cabinets are WAY more beautiful and unique than the relatively generic, typical "After" cabinets.

Oh man, I thought the before was the after. I loved the before, how sad they lost this!

You must be confusing the second before pic as an after, because the after cabinets are hardly what I would consider generic. I think they did a great job. Wish I could get a sponsor for my kitchen ha.

Wow, good use of your design dollars and definitely *not* generic-looking cabinets. (That aren't wrapped in fabric or tiles or anything similarly preposterous.)

I agree, the pink cabinets were fantastic! How sad that they were swapped out.

The pink cabinets are great, but I can certainly seen getting worn out on the color. I could go either way--I love the personality of the old cabinets, but the new ones have a great texture. More than anything, though, I love the openness of the new layout. What an improvement!

both the before and after are great. The pink cabinets! It's really cool but I don't think I could live with it for more than a month. The after is much more sleek and has very interesting cabinets as well. It's probably a more efficient and easier place to cook in which is a key point of a kitchen makeover isn't it?

To appreciate this kitchen you need to understand its history. The pink kitchen was merely the result of a mini-makeover, a little splurge just to have fun with it while she planned the proper kitchen. At least that's what I gleaned from her blog.

The original kitchen (not pictured), before the mini-makeover, was bad. The intermediary kitchen with the pink cabinets, after the mini-makeover, was good. The final kitchen, after the major gut and remodel, is great.

The pink kitchen was cute, but the new kitchen is stylish, which in my opinion is better.

The before was cute with the pink, but just didn't seem as functional or open like the after. Removing the wall between the two rooms is great and makes for a very fun setting for a party or small get together. Very nice.

See, this is why I LOVE AT. It's one of the only places where I can find like-minded individuals who think a pink kitchen is great!

My own personal preferance...I liked the pink better, but can appreciate the new open-floor plan...and the cool table with the tulip chairs.

I love the after. The before is nice if you're a college sorority sister, but the after shows a mature and beautiful makeover. I love, love, love the after. Opening up that room makes such a difference.

Thanks everyone for the comments on my kitchen(s)!! The pink version was cute, and was fun while it lasted, but the cabinets were totally lacking adequate storage space, were ancient and just slabs of wood with hinges, the floor was the worst tile job I have ever seen, the layout was completely useless to productive cooking....believe me when I say I can go on and on. It had to be redone, in order to maintain my sanity. And if I ever sold this house, I would be in serious trouble with a bubblegum pink kitchen.

OMG - who would paint their cabinets pink? Hope they plan to live there from now on since the kitchen will never sale.

Am I the only one hating the newish thumbnail layout for the photos in posts? I like them in a slideshow or just shown below the jump especially for tours and before/after because it easier to compare photos and see everything at once. Also, I wouldn't have to refer to a numbered list to figure out what I was looking at.

I don't understand how people mistake the before as after..

And yes, the pink kitchen was cuter than the original white kitchen. But how can you even compare that to the newly renovated version? The final kitchen is gorgeous. Congrats.

I prefer the after. I like the new counters, and I like that you tore down that wall. Opening that space makes both rooms feel larger. Not a fan of the modern kitchen table and chairs, I just feel they don't go with the nice dark "antique" looking wood cabinets ... but hey, that's just a preference. But lighting-wise, the room is much warmer and comfortable feeling. The pink cabinets just looked cheap.

Some of ya'll are crazy!

Sure, the before was totally cute and it certainly made the best of an awkward space, but the after is such an amazing improvement! It's so beautiful!

Like..stunningly, freakishly beautiful.

They're both beautiful. But the before was so cute. If it was my house, I would have spent the money elsewhere, and kept the pink!

Thanks to everyone who agree that my new kitchen is better than the old pink painted one. Just because I painted the cabinets pink did not make the kitchen any better in terms of function - it just made it a bit more interesting to look at in (momentarily, until you noticed the ugly countertop, laughable tile floor and makeshift island). And call me crazy, but I need a functioning kitchen.

This is my dream kitchen. I love it! I want it! I watched the video and was so impressed with the beautiful cabinets and how organized everything was. Kim you're not crazy. You're just a woman who knows what you want and what works for you.

The pink kitchen is cute, but c'mon the layout was terrible and just looking at it you could tell they were doing the best they could with a limited situation. That table plunked right in the middle of the kitchen? Those pink cabinets are adorable, but they feel flimsy, they stick, they bang when you close them, and they are just not as functional. Fine for a temporary rental or for a summer cottage, but not what most people want to live with on a permanent basis.

The new cabinets are interesting, not cookie-cutter, and the new layout is about a million times better. I like the furniture-ness of the cabinets.

Enamadora, I agree about the thumbnails. I find it inconvenient and disruptive of the flow of my reading. I prefer captions beneath the picture, and not having to scroll up and down.
