Black and White & Holiday All Over
Seattle Homes and Lifestyles: December 2008

We have to admit that it's a relief whenever we see holiday decor that doesn't rely on the combination of red and green. Black and white — like stars in the sky, eyes on a snowman, etc. — can be just as festive. Especially in the pulled-together home of window-display designer Alec Puskas.

Perhaps it comes as no surprise that Puskas' color scheme was inspired by his dalmatian, Malcolm. More surprising: Puskas' home is always decorated for Christmas by Halloween.

They ought to make Shelley Winters, Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine ornaments that you could hang on it!

I love the contrast of the black/white - you don't need to fill your home with red and green for it to still feel festive. This definitely makes the holiday a little more modern. Will have to keep this in mind for next year!

I'm with you hanako66. Very cool. And what a great space saver for a small space.

I can't say I've ever seen black Christmas ornaments. Silver and white are kind of the same color, the glistening snow and everything, but it must be hard to incorporate black in the scheme. I'm not down with the Xmas tree on the ceiling; this is not a Lionel Richie video.

oh my God, that inverted tree is SO AWESOME!
I wish I had a stairwell. Wouldn't that be a fabulous chandelier?
