Escapes: Hotel Boheme

8-3-hotel boheme1.jpgWe were drawn in by the beat poetry on Hotel Boheme's website, automatically refreshing every few minutes. What we didn't know then was that this North Beach boutique hotel would become our standby San Francisco retreat, nostalgia setting in before we'd even stayed a night.

The small rooms are saturated in color and vaguely European, with mosquito netting, rattan chairs, black and white checked coverlet and parchment chinoiserie light shades. Beat generation memorabilia is framed on the walls and the hallway light is filtered by shades papered with newspaper clippings. It might all be too much if it weren't so tastefully done.

Discreetly located on Columbus Avenue and surrounded by outdoor cafes, we could seriously get used to this lifestyle. But for now it's enough to know that it's there at the cost of a moderately priced hotel room.

Mosquito netting? In five years of living in SF, I never had a single mosquito bite, nor did I ever have flies in my apartment.
