This family of five from the Netherlands, the van Hamerens, chose their 1917 Portland, Oregon, home for the circular layout and period details. It also sits on a hill with views of Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier and Mount Adams, a far cry from their former below-sea-level digs.
French doors to a sunroom and a large, cozy fireplace are the defining features of the living room, and the moldings are painted white to keep an airy feel inside. Updates the van Hamerens did include a master suite in the basement and a beautiful, open kitchen.

Those are IKEA cabinets, I'm pretty sure (and Ikea sink as well) and I like how the upscale backsplash tile makes the whole kitchen look more elegant and design-y. Love that they painted their trim...I live in a 1910 craftsman and am dying to do the same!

What a beautiful home! It looks so absolutely comfortable and crisp. I love craftsman homes and although I love the typical dark wood, etc...I love it when the wood trim, moulding, etc. is painted white. It captures a traditional, yet modern look. That white chair is gorgeous and I love the drum pendant light. I could go on...

I'm excited by the black exterior -- at first, neighbours were wary, but now they love it. Wonder if we will be seeing more black exteriors, which are big in Denmark and Holland... ?
