As we showed yesterday, our bedroom currently contains only the absolute bare essentials, as we're just beginning to move into our new place. On the long list of things to do is figure out are the night stands. Right now we're leaning towards something along the lines of these floating ones...
We stopped by Stumasa today to check out other available options, and noticed their record boxes (pretty much just a perfectly square, wood box, which can be surprising hard to find sometimes) might be perfect if mounted to the wall, as would a pair of deep wine crates.
We also like the look of these mounted drawers (featured here), which allow you tuck some things away out of sight. Since a night stand typically holds only a light, a clock, and maybe a few other essentials, we're thinking it will be pretty light and therefore the mounting will be straightforward. What do you think?

Just make sure it has at least a drawer to hide the clutter - and that it's anchored securely to the wall...
...as people can end up leaning on them at the strangest times - and books/lamps/bottles of water/etc can get heavy.

this would be a great exercise in keeping it simple for me, as my nightstand tends to collect more and more items. It started out as a light, a clock and a book and ended up with a fan, a small herd of chapsticks, a candle, a box of tissues, remote control and half the contents of the Santa Monica library.

Great bed linens in the first pic. Any info on who makes them? Attempted to search the stumasa site but couldn't enter for some reason.

I love that bedding in the top pic. Any clue where it's from?

Great idea! My bed is stuck between two vents due to central air and this is a great solution!!!

I'm here asking about the bedding too. I tried to find the post at Design Sponge and failed. Help a girl out?

I'm betting that the bedding is 70's vintage - That's by no means a recent photograph.

love the open box look (1st pic) - so clean. but you'd have to really be disciplined with only the bare nightstand essentials and a few books.

I did nightstands based on that first picture and I loved them! I had them custom made, paid about $150 each...

My husband and I built these floating nightstands a few months ago for less than $50 total. They're VERY easy to make.

I just got 2 Sleepy Hollow floating nightstands from CB2. Roughly the same dimensions as the first pic with a flip-down door. They come in bamboo or black. Love them!!!

I've been wanting to do this, but am hesitant since I rent... but it just looks so much nicer and cleaner... and my bed is a storage platform bed, so any side table would restrict the drawer...
