Baskets as Wall Art

02.03.09_Baskets_01.jpgMany of us bring souvenirs from our travels, but sometimes we can't figure out what to do with them when we get home. If baskets is your thing, this is a great idea of how to use baskets as wall art. We have seen similar treatments before, but never to this extent. The various basket sizes and patterns form a sculptural piece of art. The similar tonality and style help to unify the look. The natural characteristics of the chaise tie it all together.

This image comes from a portfolio of Stephen Falcke, a South African interior designer. We first noticed it mentioned on Style Files. We love the natural feel of his work. He has spent some time in London, where he got his degree from the Chelsea Art School and started his career working for David Hicks. His self-described style is "a melting pot of various worldwide cultures." Check out his site for more great interiors. Don't miss his "Lodges" section — some interesting mix of natural details and modern interiors.

Ha! I was recently admiring the same exact wall treatment on the big wall by the elevators at ABC in NY. Thinking about getting a few baskets and doing a wall in my apt.

Love the baskets, but would like to see it scaled down a little. That many seems a bit overwhelming.

Love it! I did this in my first apartment 33 years ago, when baskets were cheap and I was too poor to afford art. Of course, I suspect that the baskets pictured above cost way more than what I picked up (even adjusted for inflation)!

Sigh. Yes, I suppose I'm an old meanie, but I'm so horrified by the poor writing in this post that I can't enjoy the content. Am I wrong for wanting blogs to have high editorial standards? The writers are paid, aren't they?

"If baskets *is* your thing"?! Ouch.

There's much more, but I'll stop there.

I agree, Rina. I've wanted to comment that issue in other posts, too, but didn't want to be too "school marm" about it.

One more vote for careful grammar.

The baskets ... heaven for spiders.

My apartment is too dusty for this, and I think that my boyfriend would be likely to start putting things in the baskets...first as a joke, and then as permanent installations.

It is, however, very beautiful.

Yuck. I had a friend who did this in the 80s, as part of her "country" theme, and it was just horrible. Plus an awful dust-catcher.

We did that in 1979.

I saw similar baskets to these in Macys a few years ago. The smallest was about 40$ this wall must be worth a packet.

Great! It'd be cool to do with baskets from all over the world and different cultures / eras...
