Inspiration: High Glamour at Graham and Green

10-31-08 large mirror.jpgWhat we wouldn't give for a Graham and Green store stateside. In all honesty, we probably couldn't afford much, but we'd love to go check out the fabulous furniture they offer in person. With stores only in the U.K., we'll just have to draw inspiration from their vintage-inspired pieces and look for similar styles at antique and flea markets (hello, Alameda!). Here are a few things we adore...

Large wood mirrors Preferably with scrolled edges and antique gilt. A large mirror makes a big statement in any room, and the wood frame of this one is truly gorgeous. If we found one of these that we could afford we'd snap it up immediately. Suggestion: if you like the look but are having trouble finding a similar piece, try looking for just the frame. You can take it to almost any framing shop and they'll be able to order the mirror and put it all together for you.

Mirrored furniture This is a trend that has kind of made the rounds at some chain furniture stores, but we still really like it, especially in this sleek version with angled drawers. Here are some sources for finding mirrored furniture in the states, or you could do it yourself using the directions here.

Embossed metal We imagine you'd have to find a dealer who specializes in Indian furniture in order to get something similar, as it is not something you see often at antique fairs. But who can resist that lovely patina? It truly is a work of art.

"Antique French" furniture Finding actually antique furniture from France that these pieces are modeled after is pretty difficult, and even if found would cost a fortune. These versions are some of the nicer reproductions we've seen and are really beautiful. Of course they still cost an arm and a leg. We could see a reinterpretation of the headboard using the same gray silk material on a basic, tufted version like this. It's a very different look, but with gold night stands it would echo the style albeit in a pared down, much less expensive way.

Ornate mirrors like that are fairly common on eBay - just search "Regency Mirror"

I love browsing G&G's website. I wish they would come to the US. I especially like the 50's mirrored furniture line. Alot of mirrored furniture I've run across tends to be too fussy or too ornate.
