One thing we've always needed in our own bathroom is natural light. We know that it's considered a luxury in a city like San Francisco... but we just can't give it up. However, we also know that living in such cramped quarters (like we do) sometimes means you sacrifice privacy with a bathroom window. A curtain, some Emma Jeffs adhesives... those are all great solutions. We fell in love when we saw this photo of a recently built San Francisco dwelling. It provides you with wonderful and beautiful natural light, but without the hassle of needing privacy.

I stayed at a hotel in NYC that had recessed lighting above the marble-tiled shower situated the same way this skylight is - It worked well and looked great.

I stayed at a hotel in Cartagena, Colombia that had a bathroom shower like this. It was originally a very large home built in the late 17th century, and has since been convereted into a 16 room boutique hotel. There was no window or glass covering the opening, and we were lucky enough to experience a late summer evening thunderstorm, and the rain just slid right down the slate wall in the most beautiful way. What made it even better was that the power went out and the hotel staff came around with candelabras. SO romantic. My husband and I were the only guests that night, which also made it a little eerie with the power out! Unfortunately they don't have pictures of the bathroom on the website. http://www.hotelcasadelarzobispado.com/
