Inspiration: Pops of Color

9-25-vasseur1.jpgWow. These photos blew us away when we first saw them -- we'd been looking at a lot of black-and-white interiors, and the jolt of color was refreshing. What a great reminder that color can be used in accessories for just as powerful an impact as when it's spread across an entire wall.

I wouldn't go so far as to say these "blew me away", but they are a nice example of color....only thing is you need a ton of natural light to pull off an all-white place...I don't think most people get this much light so it can come off as unremarkable or even blah.

Amienc: That's a really good point. The photos made me question my decision to paint my bedroom light grey soon (it's currently white). But then I realized that with no real window, just a window onto a sunporch, my room would never have the same amazing brightness of the room in the photos.

I do, however, covet the grey wool blanket.

The photos are great but this seems hard to pull off in real life. What if one morning you didn't want orange juice, you had pink grapefruit juice? Your whole color scheme would be ruined.

hahaha monroe, great point! i'm a black-coffee-in-the-morning kinda guy, so this wouldn't work for me.
i also agree about the fact that without a lot of natural light, these rooms would seem very very dull.

Liana, do it! Go grey :) I painted my living room Ralph Lauren's Silver Cuff Links and my kitchen Soft Earth, both varying intensities of grey, and I absolutely friggin love it! I tried painting my living room a soft sky blue the first time around, and my place gets so little natural light that it looked absolutely horrible..beautiful in the can, ugly on the wall...it had a very milk of magnesia quality and made me gag :P But I used that same color (Valspar's Fountain) as an accent color on some accessories and it is fab against the greys! I even found curtains in that color from West Elm, their new organic cotton curtains... I think saturated colors tend to work better in less-well-lit homes :)

BTW, I noticed that blanket too!!
