We found this wonderful silhouette roundup on Alkemie blog and we are in complete agreement that the simple profiles is why they are so mysterious and appealing. A lot is left to the imagination of the viewer. The elegance of silhouette images is what makes them a great decorating element in any home.
For other silhouette art ideas check out the Pet Silhouettes and Tree Mural posts.

Every year the fourth grade class where I teach memorizes a poem about shadows by Longfellow. Their teacher uses her overhead projector to create life-sized silhouettes of the entire class in various playful poses and then lines the hall with them. I suppose it's cute, but honestly it kind of creeps me out.

I love these. I really like the one at the top of the woman in the dress. A full person is really striking, esp with the extra color of the plaid.

I love the pale green paint color in the picture at the top of the page. Does anyone know what that is? It's gorgeous!

I love silhouettes. For a shape to be exciting, it has to work as silhouettes. Illustrators (especially concept artists) often do pages and pages of silhouettes just to figure out how the shapes should work, before going to detail.
I love the top one, especially.

I find them creepy, too. They're like shadows...ghosts, almost. Creeptastic.
Of course, I do love the creepy.

I have a fasicnation with silhouettes and had one cut for me at Disneyland. It's fascinating how the woman there can do it without drawing it first. Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing the post with others Monika!
Cheers,
