Inspiration: Stonework Mantel by Lew French

 photos_8_08.jpg

We dug this out of the archives and couldn't resist sharing. We've all seen horrific versions of seashell lamps and bottle-cap mirrors dreamt up by an overzealous sense of nostalgia and crafty-goodness. Most of the time we politely steer clear of such kitsch, but this display has us wishing we had grown our rock collection on a slightly larger scale.

Check out the "CBS Sunday Morning" link on his website if you'd like to see more. The interview was excellent.

I hate this. I really do. I find it dreadful and clumsy.

I saw the special on this on CBS....he is truly an artist...although it is not my taste - I wouldn't want it in my house - I was AMAZED at what this man does...

He picks each rock/stone by hand and works with them until they fit perfectly (without altering the rocks)....the amount of money he gets paid doing this is also amazing.....

Gorgeous, just amazing. It wouldn't really work with the late Deco direction our living room is headed in, but in a different house, I would totally have that. Makes me want to get serious about re-doing the stonework on the terracing in the back yard...

It's lovely. I would have it in the hobbity home of my dreams.
