Inspiration: Upcycling Beer Bottles

10.14.09 beer 1.jpgThe old Blatz brewery building, which has since been converted to condos, has done something interesting with their design by utilizing leftover beer bottles in a very beautiful way...

10.14.09 beer 2.jpgIn much the same way that Heineken used their signature green bottles in the construction of Heineken City, which we saw on Apartment Therapy here, these bottles have been stacked to create large doors that lead into a lounge area of the building. While the Heineken bottles created a bright, modern look in green, we love the soft, antique amber glow that the Blatz bottles create. The look is particularly nice for a lounge.

We have an affinity for keeping a bit of provenance in new spaces; paying homage to what a building or home once was is romantic and keeps the history alive. We think this is a lovely and not insignificant way to give a nod to the former purpose of this building. Check out more images of this great upcycle.

Also, we can't help but think that this could be a very interesting DIY project for an after-party...

This is actually pretty cool, although probably not for a DIY. Looks good in the large space on photo 1, though.

What are the rings that hold them in place made of? I'd be willing to tackle it, DIY-style. No promises, but fun to try.

Super beautiful! I could definitely do this, considering the amount of beer I drink.

I would also do a DIY of this, smaller scale. Maybe there will be a how-to?
