The Jetsons-Style Kitchen in Jet City

Usually, remodeling a kitchen from the '60s involves bringing the design into the new millennium as we are experiencing it currently. But homeowner Robert Picardo chose to update his kitchen in the image of the future popular in the middle of the last century.

Features that are not likely to have been part of the original '60s kitchen include recycled tabletops and cabinetry, low-VOC paint and mildew-resistant SafeTcork vinyl flooring containing recycled materials. The fridge is also half-size, hidden under a counter.

We find the little eating corner intended for Picardo's nine year-old son endearing (even though it's shown here with martinis on it), and the swing-out dining table a practical and space-saving touch.

I love this. It's clean, fun, and good-kitschy.

THAT is one cool kitchen! I love it! It has a bit of fun & retro, particularly with the colors, but still feels elegant and modern. I love to see something beyond the cookie cutter when people remodel their kitchens.

I love that there are two separate eating areas. You can tell it would be a great space for entertaining.

I thought I would hate it but I LOVE it. A concept that didn't get too tacky or over-the top. Too fun.

I now have a new dream kitchen! LOVE this. I like the poster hanging high on the wall, and the color combination of the pendant lamps. I also like that the refrigerator is small and out of sight--an idea I might borrow in the future when I get to remodel my own kitchen.

Eddie P, I don't think it's Robert Picardo of Star Trek. Imdb says that he has two daughters, no sons.

I especially love the translucent appearance of the colors and materials in this kitchen. I know hiding a half-size fridge works for the design of this space, but I wonder whether or not it is actually functional for this family.
