birds are fun; peacock feather wreath is tacky.

The peacock wreath is so beautiful. My mother's Christmas tree has peacock feathers, crystal and dark teal balls on it. It looks anything but tacky.

I like those little birds!

That peacock feather wreath is amazing: beautiful, very luxe and undoubtedly irrestistibly tactile.

It falls into the category of "I could have done that myself, but I never would have thought to." Kudos to whoever came up with the idea.

Mm. I am craving that wreath so badly.

The birds are cute but they look cheap. I laughed at my own pun. I would like them better with finer detail and embellishments. The wreath is quite eccentric, and this is probably my fault, but I think it's staring at me.

If only I could get my hands on one of those beautiful wreaths, I would so love to de-tackify the living room which my mother has so dutifully decorated with 20 year old tinsel *cry*

That peacock wreath is so beautiful, it's just not funny. Meanwhile, it's funny the other things they're calling kitchless like the antler candle holders, which (although I kind of like them), have kind of become the NEW kitch.

Really? You could have made that peacock wreath? My peacocks would never let me pluck them, but maybe yours would! Hee hee. I do see what you mean about being able to make, but it really is something I'd rather buy in this case, too.

Am I missing something? The wreath looks kitsch to me.

I just saw peacock feather ornaments at Target last night. Gorgeous.
May color-match the blue and paint one of my doors very soon....

I think I'll go get at least one feather to hang near sink to keep me happy while I do dishes. Something about the color with the pattern - maybe I was a peacock in a previously life - I find it enchanting!

Wikipedia says: "Kitsch is a term of German or Yiddish origin that has been used to categorize art that is considered an inferior, tasteless copy of an existing style. The term is also used more loosely in referring to any art that is pretentious to the point of being in bad taste, and also commercially produced items that are considered trite or crass."

So it sort of depends on how you view things whether or not they are kitsch.

The silver birds are replicas of Victorian hand made glass ornaments. You may not like the level of detail, but that's exactly how they looked back then (I have friends who collect them) -- although some were hand painted to add color, and some had tail "feathers" made of various things. (I have a set of reproductions from maybe ten years aog -- not originals, but not the new ones either.)

The feather wreath is bordering on kitsch in my mind, but since I like the colors and the general look, I don't care. ;^)

I like the silver branch candle holder (Hannukiah?) featured a while back better than the antler. Fake antlers seem like kitsch to me.

More antlers! Make it stop.

Kitsch is such a personal thing. To me, these things are kitschy.
That said I totally have peacock feathers in my apartment.

I thought all of it was quite kitschy.

I agree with the first post. The wreath is tacky. It's not "Christmassy" and it would look odd year round. I love peacock feathers and those jewel tones, but this...dumb.
