Last week's house tour, Tara's Tiny San Francisco Hodge-Podge, had something we've seen a few times on AT: A closet converted into a bedroom. The bedrooms shown here truly make us wish we had a closet large enough to sleep in.

Wow, I wrote my to-do list for the same project - to create a guest bedroom in my one bedroom apartment. Any help on what to specifically keep in mind with this type of set up?

I also have a tiny studio with a big walk-in closet... but the problem is, the closet is filled with clothes! :D

I had a studio with a decent-ish sized walk in and at one point also doubled as the space for the swing around murphy bed, which had been long ago removed but the door remained.
However, the closet was where I kept my chest and all my clothes. Was a pretty cool setup though.

I've always loved Thomas Jefferson's version at Monticello:

I did this years ago in a Manhattan rental that had too many closets. (It was a LONG time ago.) It could get a bit funky and it was hard to change the sheets. But I loved it. My friends and I dubbed it the bedwomb. My next place had a Murphy bed, which I still miss. To never make the bed, and never have to look at an unmade bed. Bachelor heaven.

Yes, these are fantastic. I would truly wish for even less space in my apartment.

I always wanted to do this...we once lived in an apartment when I was younger that required my sister and I to share a bedroom...but it had a closet that rivaled the size of many NY apartments...I spent many hours reading and talking on the phone in that closet...It would have been a perfect "bedwomb" {Mildman I love that term...}

I recently moved my bed into the closet, and I love it . Changing the sheets is a bit hard, and I will only be able to have fairly small gentlemen callers, but it's totally worth it!

Great use of space if that works for you. The idea of sleeping in a closet would induce major anxiety for me!

Where do you keep your clothes?

Reminds me of when my dad converted our small pantry into my oldest sister's bedroom.

I had a huge walk in closet in a past apartment. Too big for my clothes- it was probably 6x15 ft or so. When guests came we put a aero bed in there. I have to admit it wasn't my idea- a guest came up with it-and it worked like a champ!

Wow, I would love to tuck my bed in a closet then turn the bedroom into a fabulous dressing room!

you can get all sorts of beds in different sizes nowerdays from small single beds, and small double beds... and then theres the weird ikea sizes which could be useful for this.
fyi if you can fit a double bed in it, its a room, not a closet :)
