Small Space Solutions
Canadian House & Home

9-2-small spaces1.jpgBecause we live in a small home, we're always searching out small space tips, tricks, and inspiration. Earlier today we found a gallery of solutions on Canadian House & Home's website. We love this entry hall nook because it's practical, simple to DIY, and chic.

Leslie,
Love this nook in the entry. Such an efficient use of space and it looks good too. I like it that the shelves are painted a great chocolate with the contrasting shade on the wall, seems very stylish and chic!

Anyone have sourcing details on the pull out desk/shelf?

The link goes to the Canadian House & Home website which says the cabinet is from Powell and Bonnell. I don't see it on their website. You could try calling them. 800-272-2058

actually the landing strip nook reminds me of the home office nook on another thread. How about a thread about interesting uses for otherwise useless nooks and niches?

That nook is gorgeous! Wow, now I am going to add "nook" to my "what to look for in a house" list.

And that slide out table is awesome, too.

I think the entry looks a little merchandised, to be honest. A person who dresses themselves and their home to look like a catalog lives there. I'm not convinced of it being a great use of a small space either. It's a small space in the entryway, but it's got a few deliberate props spread out to look adorable, and then I don't know what's in the boxes that needs to be right there. Mittens? Your real purse and umbrella? Recipes? Not that those things aren't nice, it just doesn't seem like the right picture to exemplify the concept of good use.

I agree with K T G. It doesn't look like a small space solution to me. It's pretty and all, but if I were to put in the effort to build something like that, it would have to be to store more than 8 things.

That's cute if your coat coordinates with your paint color which coordinates with the print you hang there. Not so cute when you have more than one coat and non-matching accessories. I like the shelves, though.

I think it would be a useful space for me even though I agree the area looks too staged for day to day living. I'd be cluttering all the shelves with newspapers, shoes, bags, and sports equipment, like a closet with no door. I love the paint colors!

Good points on the staged entry way. Maybe in real life you could put shoes on the lower shelf, ditch the art and put coat hooks all along the width of the space, and use closed cabinets on top instead of shelves.

In real life, it's a small space near a door. That's more than many people get. Problem solved!

Can anyone share (knowledge of) the fabulous paint colors in that nook there?

Beautiful - but where are all the shoes? and lost gloves and crumpled receipts? And a thousand coats that nobody wears anymore? In my wildest dreams does my entryway look this cool and clean.

I too would LOVE to know the paint color...it is better than what I was going to use in my place. Brand? Color?
