apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Many Faces of Kelly Hoppen

London designer Kelly Hoppen's website includes a portfolio of her interior design work. Its format walks us through a few different project types, from The Loft to The Traditional Home. What's your persona?...

FIRST ROW:

1 The Loft

2 The City Apartment

3 The Traditional Home

4 Eclectic Chic

5 Architectural

SECOND ROW:

1 The Yacht (this yacht kitchen is closest to our persona - and the smallest space we could find in the entire portfolio!)

2 The Hotel

3 The Restaurant: scrawled handwriting on the upholstery of chairs in a small lounge area

I need some context for that "faggots" chair.

Architectural. I love how the wall moves unbroken from indoors to out.

p.s. "faggot" is British for meatball. Notice all the other scribbling relates to food.

"I need some context for that "faggots" chair."

Note that this is in a restaurant, and in Britain (where this restaurant & decorator are located) a faggot is a kind of meatball made of offal.

I find her a one-note decorator - her toolbox appears to consist nearly exclusively of overscaled & blocky upholstery, a predominance of texture to the near-exclusion of pattern, monochromatic color schemes and dim lighting.

Hm.
An unfortunate choice of word for a meatball, I think.

Right there with ya, bepsf... she's a one trick pony.

I think every photo shown is incredible. Soft elegant curves with gentle splashes of color everywhere. I would love living in this space.

i'm not impressed with her work. It's kind of boring. Even if "faggot" means something else, i don't see why she has to use that word.

I too find her boring, and can't understand why she has been so celebrated. While I love Liagre's stuff, she succeeds in making it dull, completely losing its exciting African-inspired edge.

Everything is beige and high-end -- as boring as it gets. She is one of the most over-rated designers around.

She sure is no Ilse Crawford!

I hear she just dumped her lover maybe now she'll cut her hair and liven up her interior design.

ps Faggot is 'English' food not British and not a meatball, something even more horrible.

A faggot is a bundle of sticks too. That might make more sense.

Any resources for standing lamps, like the one in the first picture, with an extendable arm?

This style makes me feel anxious. It looks like an airport or a psychiatric office from 1980 (not that I'd know).
