Shubel designed the house for (and with the help of) his former personal assistant, and it definitely feels like less of a "designer house" and more of a collaborative effort (with really fabulous results). We love the use of pink in the living room to counteract the gray, foggy light of north-facing windows in SF - something to keep in mind if you're considering painting.

Yikes that is so decorated to me. Not liking it all the symmetry.

And then put the stuffiness back in ;)
It is pretty though.

Not a fan of the pink living room, but I love the kitchen - it's a dream!

I mean, it's "lovely" but I don't feel it's essence. Seems too store-bought for my liking.

There are many elements in these rooms that I love, like the gorgeous bed, but I don't care for the pink walls. They're a little too pink for my taste (and I'm someone who usually loves pink). My favorite part is the dogs!

The pink living room goes a long way toward lightening up the dark couch and chairs, which could have looked totally heavy otherwise. (Though reading the article, it sounds like the pink came first and the dark colors were meant to weigh it down.) I really like the classic-eclectic feel of this.

all that symmetry....i'd be looking for my twin or a mirror.

I am loving that living room. I'd take out the huge white coffee table, it's totally overwhelming that room.

OMG, that pink bedroom, that amazing pink armoire! I love it!
I'd do the kitchen in more cheeful colors, though--the black and white seems so commercial.

I never cared for homes in which each room has its own palette. Seems so categorized, like the White House's Green Room, Red Room, etc.
It take more imagination to design a flow where colors morph seamlessly from one scheme to another. Especially in the era of (blessed-!) downsizing, transitions between spaces are best done subtly.

Too designery and impersonal.
Nice striped shades, though.

Pink is cute...but id rather use it as accents in LIVING ROOMS.

Lovely rooms, but most of them were a bit overdone. Many nice elements, but there is a little too much going on in all the rooms. I do like the pink bedroom though...that was fun! And of course the matching doggies were just too cute!

Love all the rooms and how well appointed they are. Keep in mind this is the home of an interior design assistant designed by she and her former boss. Quite frankly, I enjoy interiors by designers and non designers alike just like I dig Craftsman style as much as MCM.
The world would be so uninspiring w/o a little bit of everything now wouldn't it?
