What: Hand-painted tiled border at the fantastic columned entrance for the Gaylord Suites builiding
Where: Jones Street at Geary
When: Sunday, June 22 at 1:30 pm
Why: On our way to visit a friend's new place, we first noticed the incredible columns (jump below for a close-up) and then saw the beautifully hand-painted tiles that border the steps. The tile, column and palm leaves combo reminded us of a movie set in old Havana. Perhaps a bit out of place in the Tendernob....but really, isn't that the beauty of San Francisco?
"Tendernob" is the slang for the area between Nob Hill and the Tenderloin neighborhoods.
Nob Hill people tend to be annoyed by the name and Tenderloin residents find it hilarious. It's generally not considered a real neighborhood in its own right, but just the outer edge of Nob Hill.
Also, when I was out there we called the yuppie punks in that area TenderSnobs.
All in all, it's a pretty area and still hasn't become as insanely pricey as Nob Hill proper.
