One of our relatives was out of town when the finale of Top Design aired. Yesterday, as she was about to sit down and watch the TiVo'd episode, she said that she was sure Preston won. We didn't spoil it for her, but it reminded us that we'd been surprised that Nathan was the winner. Today we came upon some style tips from the three finalists...

• Mix old with new
• Get crafty
• Create comfort
• Use what you've got
• Each room needs a showstopper
• Don't fear color
• Fill a room with mirrors
• Add wall texture
• Choose monochromatic accents
• Blend masculine and feminine

Well, I missed it too...
...but since they don't show reruns - I'm glad that Nathan won anyway.

I'm glad that Narthan won. When you think of the last 3 contestants, which one is most likley to come up with designs ideas that are innovative and interesting? Nathan is the person, in my opinion. I can see him pushing the envelope and stretching the boundaries of contemporary interior design. Ondine and Preston were talented, for sure, but they seemed to rehash already established design ideas in order to create pretty rooms. Nathan was the only contestant who had the bollocks to go out on a limb. I admire him for that.

I thought that Nathan was the most creative and talented from the start, so I was definitely happy with the result. Ondine, Preston, and Eddie were all very good, too,

Those stiff, posed photos of men in suits -- Am I the only one who thinks that looks like the Politburo?

Well, the vintage guys in the suits would make me a little uncomfortable. They look more like people who would join the Masons than members of the Politburo. The photo of the little boy in the sailor suit breaks up the effect a bit.

However, I don't think the photo grouping is effectively done. The photos are grouped a little too tightly.

Poor Preston was abused, maligned, then robbed of his rightful place as the top design winner.
