Tuscan Interiors with a Modern Touch

Do you know what drew us to each of these interiors? We love how they are apparently modern but still influenced by traditional Tuscan architecture. Keeping it simple and functional allows each of these interventions to honor the material beauty of heavy timber beams, stone walls and terra cotta floors, with a modern touch...

The first 4 are drool-worthy...
...the last one - Not so much.

Do Ikea lamps render a room modern?

soooo snarky chartreuse. I think the modernity of the room to which you are referring comes from the low profile modern bed and bedding, and the sleek natural storage trunks. I can dig it.

The first one looks like my bedroom. Of course, without the same ceiling, walls and floors....it sure doesn't have the same punch.

love these! That is what I enjoy so much about living in Europe -- Europeans are able to successfully marry past and present, much more so than we do in North America.

The father of a friend of ours, when he retired, retired to Tuscany, where he has an ancient house in this vein... Lucky, lucky man! (and no, he was not a captain of industry, but rather, a frugal civil servant).

@jacksonlalonde- I wasn't being snarky. I was asking a real design question. The room seems to be filled with peasant furniture. So I did not get the "modern" equation. Are we using the term to denote a simple lack of ornament? What is "modern" here on AT?

Chartreuse- I thought the same exact thing. These rooms, though lovely and very inviting, don't say modern to me. They seem rustic or farmhouse, which I like very much, but thought they'd more of a mix of modern and rustic together. Ho hum.
