Having Fun with Felt: Window Drapes or A Room Divider

01_04.06.09_Drapes.jpgWe only have one window in our home, so we like to keep it mostly uncovered. In the past we used very transparent fabric, and we also tried decorative wooden screens. Privacy is not much of an issue, but we like the idea of dressing up our 11 foot window. This simple screen might be our next DIY project, especially considering that the length and width can be custom. More photos after the jump...

We came across this idea on Pickels, a Norwegian blog. We love the simple and modern look. The balls are on fishing wire with a knot underneath each ball to keep them in place. They are made out of felt and you can get them pre-made at different quantities from here. Several Etsy shops sell them as well - a few of them are listed below. The Pickles blog offers detailed instructions on how to make them yourself. The blog is in Norwegian, so using a translator will help if you don't speak the language.

Resources for felt balls from the Betz White blog:

Bigfish - felt beads and other felting accessories
MaryJanesAttic - roving (for making your own) and other felting supplies
Field Craft Studio - wool felt sheets
BloomingFelt - felt balls
HandBEHG - felt balls

Hmmmm. An application for felt that I might be able to deal with! (Although my cats would NOT leav it alone, so not possible in my house.)

Felt fades, though. Expect it to change pretty quickly in bright light.

Great whimsical look. Great way to add a bit of color.
I like it. A lot.
