Kat's designs seem to honor both the shape of the container and, somehow, its history; a paph orchid, for example, positively glows inside an old pendant lamp. Using miniatures from artist Christina of the Etsy shop Weeds and Wild Things, Kat creates tiny villages scattered on rolling hills of moss.
The last photo above is from Kat's daughter Koko's bedroom, which looks to be full of terrariums. Lucky girl! Visit Kat's wonderful blog, Design Spunk, for more terrarium pics and to see the full tour of Koko's room.
Lucky for us Bay Area residents, Urban Indigo in Oakland (3339 Lakeshore Avenue) is hosting a trunk show of Kat's terrariums, with live music and refreshments, this Saturday from 2-5pm. The terrariums are also available locally at Fleurty, The Gardener, and Apartment 46. For those who live elsewhere, Kat also offers custom-made terrariums in her Etsy shop, Green Under Glass! They range in price from $25 to $125.

OMG, I have a small trove of those little ceramic houses from when I lived in Greece! They haven't seen the outside of a box for years, because I haven't had a place to put them. Now I do, as well as another project to bring the outside in.
