Bathrooms are often overlooked when we're working on our homes, but it serves one of the core functions of shelter: getting clean and ready for the day. A drab bathroom can be subtly depressing. On the other hand, it's a small and therefore approachable room to spruce up. Canadian House and Home has a great inspiration gallery, with especially interesting color combos and surfaces.

Don't know if bathrooms are the most approachable rooms to reno. Any room that's 90% plumbing and tile is likely to be the most expensive to renovate per square foot.
