Kitchen Inspiration: DIY Rental-Friendly Backsplash

If your landlord is flexible enough to let you hang pictures, then you can probably adapt this idea from Ikea Hacker. Dawn decided that her kitchen needed color, and instead of fretting over tile or paper, came up with this cheap solution.

Dawn sandwiched Ikea FREDERIKA fabric between the glass of a CLIPS frame, hung it where she wanted it, et voila. The two narrower panels were made using similar frames from a craft store in order to get that long, narrow dimension. Needless to say this idea could be adapted with a multitude of fabrics and papers substituted for FREDERIKA.

Excellent use of a tension rod! I'd been afraid to put holes in the wall to put up the Ikea rod meant to hold the hanging baskets. A tension rod solves that problem very nicely!

Totally love the tension rod idea too! I don't want to put holes in my cabinets, so this is perfect when I decide to change the kitchen.

I find it hard to believe that a landlord with a bug up about sticking things to walls would install a range without a hood. However, I'd also look into or try installing a cut sheet of masonite and designing something to go on that.

Ah ha ha, I love the tension rod, it totally cracks me up. I think I'm totally going to steal that idea - I have a spot just like that over my sink, and I haven't been able to hang any traditional hooks because all the walls are tile.

Hooray for quickie-cheap renters solutions!
