8 AM Lamp

5-8-8amlamp.jpg

We love this lamp.

Designed by Joseph Graceffa and Dario Buzzini, the 8 AM Lamp was shown last month in Milan. It's a simple task lamp, consisting of braided electric wire and a clamp. (Not just an ordinary clamp: by merely touching it, the light is turned on and off, and the levels are increased.) It reminds us of a favorite, the Prouve Potence Lamp.

But, unfortunately, it's not available yet. The designers write here that although it's now just a concept, they're "pursuing interests from the lighting industry for potential manufacturers," and estimate that the lamp will cost between $180 and $200. (Be sure to look at the charming preliminary sketches.)

I like clean lines as much as anyone else but this is stupid. Shades exist for a reason. This is bad ergonomics to have a bulb in your face.

Pretty, but it looks as though it'd cause glare issues on the computer screen.
