Best Night Lights

3-6-night lights.jpg

You only have to run into something in the middle of the night once -- and have the bruises or stubbed toe to show for it -- before you realize that night lights aren't just for kids. Here are some of our favorites...

Both of these are super cheap. I bought the floating lights to put in my fountain out on the balcony but I use them inside as well. They're great for a dim light between bed and bathroom.

I use a small lamp that has a white round porcelain base and a blue shade with a line off/on switch that uses a night light bulb that I got on clearance at K-Mart last year for I think $2 for the base and got the shade for free since the checker didn't see that it was prices seperately. :-)

Works great sitting on my bathroom counter.

I bought my nephew an illuminated globe for Xmas - He now uses it as a nightlight.

Nice roundup! The egg nightlight is so beautiful, but so expensive. I bought a spotlight and disco ball for my kid's room a few years back, and made a cover for the spotlight from cardboard, cutting a star-shaped hole to fit over the light. It's kind of magical.

I would steer clear of anything by Vessel.
It just NEVER works !!
Candela, Candeloo, Luau ... anything.
And customer service is the worst ever !

I have the older version of the SPOKA. It's shaped like a ghost, and emits a red glow. Made of a soft rubber that feels very satisfying. Now I want this one, too!

My understanding is that Vessel has been taken over by a new company that's overhauling all the products. Can anyone confirm this?

As it stands, I may be the exception, but I have to say that our experience with Vessel products has been pretty good. We've had a pair of Candeloos in nightly use in my toddler's room for almost three years, ever since he was born. One lamp has somewhat lost its ability to hold a charge (which is understandable given how much use it's seen), but the other works almost as well as when it was new. I'm sorry to hear that others haven't been as lucky. It's a really handy little set of lights.

Yes, Vessel's Candelas, etc., are now actually made by OXO.

I had the old Candelas and was disappointed that the batteries (which died after a couple of years) weren't replaceable. I've had the new Candelas, with replaceable batteries, just since Christmas -- no problems so far, but we'll see how long they last...

I just picked up a few from IKEA, I think, that are LED's & are directional via a swivel mechanism. They also have a light sensor so they only come on when needed. Very low energy consumption.
