apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Climbing Light

2007_02_13_climbing-light.jpgA touch of the unexpected is often welcome in the bedroom.

If you're looking for a functional and charming spacesaving bedside light, UK design firm Black + Blum's Climbing Light is a fun option. Much smaller than a regular lamp, it's rigged with a silver-topped bulb head that focuses light downward, right onto your reading material.

The Climbing Light is also very easy to hang: the left "hand" hooks over a single screw and you're done.

We wish the cord did something other than dangle, but at least a dangling cord can be rationalized as part of the design in this case. (It's the climber's rope!)

The Puerto Rican design store da'Haus will ship the $49 light to the US mainland for $14.

Available at the da'Haus online store.

neat.

one of the things i hate about apartment living is not being able to drill holes and hardwire wall lamps, thus always having to deal with a cord running down the wall.

but in this case it does almost act as part of the design element.

if you don't like dangling cords, put a little of white "TAC Adhesive Mounting Putty" behind the switch and place it where you most like it. I do the same for cords running along the walls, it stays in place and comes off whenever you wish so!
