apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Coatlight by Mathias Hahn

We recently installed a hanging lamp above our coatrack, which is simply a row of hooks along one wall of our living room. The light helped define our entry area, and made getting out of the house (and fishing for keys and wallets in pockets) so much easier. This is the context in which we can appreciate the Coatlight.

The Coatlight helps define the entry area, both with light and the tripod structure. Of course, it would be sufficient hanging space only for a single person living alone, who has somewhere else to hang multiple jackets. We could also see it by a back door in a larger place, or in a guest room.

I like the concept and the novelty, but it has a large footprint and even if it's up against a wall, at least one leg would always get in my way. A suspension lamp and conventional coatrack or closet makes more practical sense (for my needs that is). That said, if I look at it as a piece of sculptural, large scale art that I can interact with, then it's great!
