Five Things We Like at One Kings Lane

We're usually hesitant to check out any shopping website that requires one to log in, but we're so glad we bit the bullet and signed up for One Kings Lane, as the sales are seriously good and the featured designers even better. But if you've yet to check out the deeply discounted home decor offerings on the site, well, we won't twist your arm...

The fewer people checking out the daily deals on designers from Kate Spade to Artecnica, the better... that way the items we're coveting won't sell out so quickly. Here are a few items we've currently got our eyes on, but if you're interested, you'd better hurry - the sales events only last for about three days, and items sell out fast.

  1. Quilts from Denyse Schmidt from $119 to $199

  2. Second Shadow Morning Garden halogen light by Tord Boontje from Artecnica for $79

  3. Set of Three Starlightz from Artiecnica for $19

  4. Perry Street Clock from Kate Spade for $25

  5. STRiDA Folding Bike for $500

All available now at One Kings Lane.

I love my Strida 5.0 - but the price on that one pictured (a 3.2) seems a bit high...

...I bought my 5.0 from a retailer via eBay for @ $600, (DWR was selling them for $650 a couple weeks back - regularly $800) and 3.2's are available on eBay for far less.

I ordered from One Kings Lane and the lamp was a piece of crap. total and utter crap. I am still waiting for the return authorization, I've called 3 times and each time they tell me they are trying to contact the supplier. I highly doubt I will ever order from them again.

larchgirl did you buy those Good Wood lamps from the Two's Company event? I did and they suck. Not wood at all but poorly applied wood like surface. Yuk! I may return them and apparently I was not the only unhappy person. It was my first purchase and I am unhappy that they would sell such a poor quality item with (normally) a no return policy, though they seem amenable to me returning them.

I bought two "Good Wood" lamps during the Two's Company event, and they are terrible. Not wood, and a poorly executed wood like finish on the surface. I am hesitant to make another purchase, though they seem to be amenable to my returning the lamps, even though they had a no return policy, I expect I was not the only unhappy purchaser. larchgirl were these the lamps you bought?

What does everyone think about One Kings Lane as a concept? (apart from the thumbs up/down on merchandise). It seems seriously geared toward impulse buying, which means it should be fairly profitable as the economy picks up again (don't I sound hopeful?), just wondering what people think about this sort of sample sale online - and - where items are available for a limited time (a colleague and I are thinking of starting something similar but aimed at a different market segment). Would appreciate any constructive thoughts.

As for pricing, I agree, I've shopped around and found things cheaper quite often but there are a few items they've had that I thought were spectacular deals.

@marid22 -- I had been pining after those lamps, but couldn't think of good place to put them so I passed. I'm glad to know I didn't miss anything!
I did purchase the Kate Spade clock yesterday, after seeing the yellow version on a previous AT post. I joined One Kings Lane about a month ago, and that was my first purchase.

To Whom this may concern,

I am writing to let you know that I am furious to discover that what I thought was a great service -- limited quantities of overstock at a deeply discounted price -- is merely a sham. Today I ordered the Henckles knife set (see order confirmation below), only to discover that the same set is offered on Amazon.com for $199.00 with free shipping. $52.95 less, or fully 25% less than what I paid you.

I want you to know that I will never recommend your site to anyone, I will never purchase from you again, and I will actively post about my experience on every design blog I can find, especially Apartment Therapy, where I first read about your site.

You're just a rip-off with a fancy wrapper. Thanks for nothing.

SINCERELY,
-Kim Grant

I too am extremely disappointed with One Kings Lane. I bought two runner rugs from them (about $100 each). At that "discounted price" with a no return policy, I naively thought they would be decent. Instead both are extremely poor quality and one of them is so faded around the edges that I'm embarressed to use it anywhere in my apartment. It appears to have been used as a display in a store and is worse for the wear. I will never order from them again.

I'm curious whether AT has some sort of business/personal connection to OKL. Why are they constantly promoting a business with whom so many have had bad experiences?
